(Reno, Nev.) -- The Davidson Institute for Talent Development is offering high-achieving young people across the country the opportunity to be named as 2006 Davidson Fellows. Individuals named as Davidson Fellows receive a $50,000, $25,000 or $10,000 scholarship in recognition of their outstanding achievements in the areas of Science, Technology, Mathematics, Music, Literature, Philosophy or Outside the Box. Each submission must be an original piece of work recognized by experts in the field as "significant" and it must have the potential to make a positive contribution to society. To be eligible, applicants must be under the age of 18 as of Oct. 1, 2006, and a U.S. citizen or residing in the United States or a permanent U.S. resident. There is no minimum age for eligibility. The scholarship must be used at an accredited institute of learning. The 2006 applications are posted at www.DavidsonGifted.org/Fellows. The deadline to apply is March 31, 2006. Each year, the Davidson Fellows are honored at a reception each September in Washington, D.C. Each application is evaluated on its scope and quality, level of significance, and the applicant's depth of knowledge and understanding of the work and related domain area.
