RENO PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA HOSTS PIANO

RENO, Nev. (October 2011) – Seventeen-year-old pianist Conrad Tao of New York City returns as the featured soloist for the Reno Philharmonic Orchestra’s “Legend and Triumph” Concert on Sunday, Oct. 23 and Tuesday, Oct. 25 led by Laura Jackson, music director.
Tao was named a Davidson Fellow Laureate in 2008, receiving a $50,000 scholarship from the Davidson Institute for Talent Development, a national non-profit based in Reno whose mission is to support profoundly gifted young people (DavidsonGifted.org). The Davidson Institute is underwriting Tao’s Reno performance.
Tao is a student in the joint Columbia University/Juilliard college program in New York. He has appeared as a soloist with the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Russian National Orchestra, the San Francisco Symphony, and the Dallas and Baltimore Symphonies, among others. Tao has given solo recitals at the Louvre Museum, the Ravinia Festival, the Verbier Festival, UC Berkeley’s Cal Performance Series and the Gilmore Series, and has toured Italy, Mexico, Chile, Russia, China and Singapore. Tao has been named a 2012 Gilmore Young Artist, an honor awarded every two years to highlight the most promising of young U.S. pianists. He made his debut with the Reno Philharmonic in March 2010, playing Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 22.

speaking before the performance for "Legend and Triumph." This
pre-concert talk includes information about the composers and/or works
the orchestra will perform. The preview is free for all ticket holders
and will begin on Sunday at 3 p.m. in the main hall (doors open at 2:45
p.m.) and Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Exhibition hall (doors open at 6:45
p.m.) at the Pioneer Center.
All performances take place in the Pioneer Center for the Performing Arts. Single ticket prices start at $20, with discounts available to seniors and students. Students can come for “rush” seating for $8 per ticket, one hour before performance, and must bring valid student ID. Visit
