Q&D CONSTRUCTION FINISHES
RENO'S DAVIDSON ACADEMY

First Public School for Profoundly Gifted Students in the
Nation Promises Bright Future for Northern Nevada

Reno, Nev. (June 2006) – By the end of June, Q&D Construction will complete tenant improvements at the new Davidson Academy of Nevada, the first public school of its kind in the nation for profoundly gifted students and which is located in Reno’s KNPB Channel 5 building at 1670 N. Virginia St.

The Davidson Academy (www.DavidsonAcademy.UNR.edu) is the vision of Bob and Jan Davidson, former educational software entrepreneurs who founded the Davidson Institute in 1999.

“Q&D salutes Bob and Jan Davidson for their vision and passion,” said Executive Vice President John Breternitz of Q&D Construction. “Throughout the planning and construction of this project, they were decisive and focused, which allowed them to accelerate their dream of nurturing our brightest young minds. Their enthusiasm is contagious, making this new school one of the most exciting projects we’ve worked on in our 42 years in construction.”

Opening this August, The Davidson Academy will enroll 35 full-time middle- and high-school level students – many moving to northern Nevada with their families to attend the school – in the dynamic, new facility designed by Sheehan Van Woert Bigotti.

“Local economic development leaders have longed for a way to attract a nucleus of genius to complement our already impressive university system and The Davidson Academy significantly increases our community’s opportunity for innovations,” said Breternitz, who is also Chairman of the board at Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada (EDAWN). “The education format Bob and Jan Davidson have devised for their academy melds science and business in a way that engenders entrepreneurial thinking. This is a dream come true for those of us supporting the Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada’s emphasis on premium economic diversification."

With three-quarters of a million dollars in construction tenant improvements, the Davidson Academy project is finishing on time and on budget.

“We are thankful for Q&D Construction and the sub-contractors for completing a demanding task on a short deadline,” said Bob Davidson, co-founder of The Davidson Academy. “The Davidson Academy will draw young intellectual talent from across the country while furthering Nevada’s role in making our nation a continued force in the global marketplace, and we could not have done it alone without all the support and dedication from Q&D’s team.

Q&D has been building roads, bridges, parks, subdivisions, schools, hospitals, offices, estate homes, industrial facilities and public use facilities in northern Nevada since 1964.
