DAVIDSON ACADEMY OF NEVADA ANNOUNCES
GRADUATING CLASS OF 2010

 
Six Students to Receive Diplomas

(Reno, Nev.) – The Davidson Academy of Nevada, a free public school for profoundly gifted students located on the campus of the University of Nevada, Reno, is pleased to announce the graduating class of 2010.

Six students will receive high school diplomas from The Davidson Academy this year. The 2010 graduates and the colleges they will attend are: 

  • Marissa Clopton – University of Idaho

  • Jessica Kim – University of Nevada, Reno 

  • Benjamin Lokshin – Stanford University

  • Max Oswald-Sells – Undecided 

  • Misha Raffiee – California Institute of Technology (Caltech)

  • Hannah Shoenhard – Scripps College

In addition, Jessica, Hannah and Benjamin were Presidential Scholar nominees (http://www.presidentialscholars.org/). Hannah and Benjamin are also National Merit Scholar finalists (http://www.nationalmerit.org/). Five of the graduates started at The Davidson Academy its first year in 2006, and the sixth has been a student since 2007. 

“It is very exciting to see these graduates embark on the next stage of their lives,” said Colleen Harsin, director of The Davidson Academy. “We know that they will continue to amaze us as they work their way through college and beyond.”

Last year, the Davidson Academy graduated its first class of nine students, who went on to such colleges as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), University of Washington, Bennington, Oberlin and the University of Nevada, Reno. A total of 15 students have now graduated from the Academy. 

In 1999, Bob and Jan Davidson founded the Davidson Institute for Talent Development, a national non-profit located in Reno that supports our nation’s brightest young people. In 2004, the Davidsons co-authored, with Laura Vanderkam, Genius Denied: How to Stop Wasting Our Brightest Young Minds, published by Simon & Schuster. In 2006, they founded The Davidson Academy of Nevada, located in the Jot Travis Building on the University of Nevada, Reno campus.
